What is the Foundation Course and who is it for?

The Foundation Course is a beginner-friendly introduction to Chinese Herbal Medicine, designed for individuals who are curious about herbal practice but may not have a background in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

This course is open to medical doctors, chiropractors, and other healthcare professionals interested in gaining a deeper understanding of TCM — especially those considering future enrolment in the Diploma in Chinese Herbal Medicine.

Designed as a prerequisite course for those without a TCM background, this programme offers a solid grounding in:

  • Fundamental Chinese medical theories
  • Basic diagnostic skills
  • Core treatment principles

Whether you're from a Western medicine background or are completely new to Chinese medicine, this course ensures you're well-prepared for more advanced studies.

Please note: For complete beginners without prior training in health sciences, proof of prior study in Western anatomy and physiology is required for progression to the Diploma. This can also be studied alongside the Foundation Course.

If you do not have any background in anatomy, you may explore courses from providers such as Essential Training.

TIP: Whether you're looking to deepen your TCM knowledge or test the waters before a larger commitment, the Foundation Course is a practical first step

The course covers the essential principles of herbal classification, basic diagnosis, and the safe use of common Chinese herbs. It offers a structured but accessible starting point, with flexible study formats (online or hybrid) to suit busy schedules.
